SUE/ GTZ Support to JNNURM Reform Project
Upscaling Mechanisms for Solid Waste Management
As a part of the technical support of GTZ to the JNNURM project, a team of National and International Experts visited the cities of Raipur, Shimla, Kochi, Nashik and Varanasi from 16-28 February, 09 for a complete analysis of the current situation of municipal solid waste management and subsequently made recommendations for systematically incorporating environmental concerns in the detailed project reports.

A detailed report of the experts' suggestions for the ideal way forward including the implementation schedule for further steps was sent to the respective Municipal Corporations, respective State Nodal Agencies and to the concerned Ministries for their comments and suggestions.

A team of CDM experts reviewed the Detailed Project reports (DPR's) and visited the cities together with the Solid Waste Management experts and prepared a pre-feasibility report on the CDM potential of the proposed interventions.

The recommendations of the experts and the pre-feasibility report would provide improved urban infrastructure in the cities leading to measurable improvements in terms of waste management and proper disposal.
